An old scam returns with a new twist

In these tough economic times that many people are turning to payday loan companies to help cover unexpected or emergency expenses to manage short-term financial difficulties. The Sheriff's Office Lee County residents alerted many times to be aware of swindlers who claim to be a debt collector for a payday loan company, and continues to harass or verbally threaten the victim or to repay their debt or face arrest. The scammer uses fear and intimidation to coerce the victims to provide their credit card and bank account information.Sheriff Line Fraud Office has recently received a report of a victim who was repeatedly called on his home, work and cell phone from a male who claimed the victim had an outstanding balance on a loan salary. While talking to the scammer on their phone, mobile phone rang the victim and his mother's name and number appears on the caller ID. The male caller was identified as a friend of his son and said his son had been hurt in an accident and need emergency medical treatment. For her son for treatment, she said to transfer money via Western Union to an unknown destination.Distraught about the welfare of her son, she was on her way to send money when she received a phone call from his son telling him the scam. This scam could have been costly for both the mother and son. Remember that legitimate lenders cash advance or collectors have strict laws they must follow when lending money or raising debt. NEVER give out personal information or money over the phone to someone you do not know. Consider it a scam if the caller threatened involving law enforcement for an unpaid debt. If you owe money for overdue loan is not a criminal violation, but requires a civil action.
